The whole idea of Le Marche is to promote the town of Heathfield by inviting visitors from far and wide to come along and to enjoy the day and see what Heathfield has to offer and, thankfully, many are very pleasantly surprised and revisit our town. As usual, Station Approach and part of Station Road will be closed to traffic for the entire day to allow the extravaganza to take place. There will be music and entertainment at three venues - Station Road main stage, Kings Church and in the High Street. There is something planned to amuse and entertain all ages, together with approximately 80 market stalls (approximately 50% french) selling English and French goodies and more and more shops are opening on the day - and all this in Heathfield!!
For more information on the day, please click on the press release.
Press release
If you have good communication skills, a sensitive attitude towards others, and an understanding of the stresses, as well as the joys, of family life, home-start south downs would like to hear from you.
Ffor over 14 years our organisation has been supporting Lewes district families who have at least one child under 5 through difficult times, and thanks to Big lottery funding we are continuing our work in North Wealden. Home-start volunteers home-visit families once a week. Families are referred, or self-refer, for reasons as varied as isolation, physical or mental illness, bereavement, low self-esteem, disability, multiple births, or simply finding parenting a struggle. Most referrals come from health visitors. Our big challenge is to recruit volunteers in order to meet the needs of the Wealden families who are referred to us.
volunteers, who must be parents themselves or have parenting experience, offer friendly support, understanding, reassurance, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, an extra pair of hands and practical help with activities like playing or story time. Support is confidential and entirely voluntary. A volunteer will only visit on a family's invitation. As a volunteer you will gain support and training, new skills and experience, new friends, out of pocket expenses and the knowledge you are making a difference. If you wish you may gain a qualification, as the course is accredited with the open college network.
Our next 10-week volunteer preparation course begins in September, one day a week on Thursdays, 9.30am to 2.30pm at the Children's Centre in Uckfield.
if you or someone you know would like to know more about volunteering for Home-Start please ring us on 01273 612025 for an informal chat with Sarah or Jacky.
